If there’s one thing better than visiting Puzzlewood it has to be actually staying at Puzzlewood!
Not only does our accommodation provide a perfect base for exploring the wonderful Forest of Dean if you’re visiting from further afar, it also means you get a unique experience of Puzzlewood itself.
Staying at Puzzlewood
Puzzlewood Cottage (pictured above) and Puzzlewood Patch are both cosy and comfortable cottages that sleep up to four.
For larger groups, Puzzlewood House, which is part of the original farmhouse, can sleep up to eight. All three properties have mod cons – and, yes, for those who need to be hooked up to a device of some shape or size, there is wifi! But of course, part of the beauty of Puzzlewood is to get away from everything (if you possibly can!) and enjoy a fix of nature and tranquillity.
The cottages always prove popular with artists, photographers and writers – no surprise when Puzzlewood is such a picturesque and inspiring setting, as is the wider area. If you enjoy photography you could even time your stay with a photography course run by professional photographer David Broadbent.
But booking one of Puzzlewood’s cottages as an artistic retreat isn’t the only reason to stay with us. They are also ideal for family holidays. Come for a weekend, plan a mid-week break or stay for a week or more, there is no chance of anyone getting bored!
What one of our guests has to say
Sam and her extended family recently stayed at Puzzlewood House. She and her husband Jon live with their two children, Alexia aged 5 and Artemisia aged 2, in Abu Dhabi and were back in the UK to see relatives and arranged a week’s holiday at Puzzlewood. Also staying were Jon’s sister and her two children aged 7 and 5, and both sets of grandparents, aged 70+, stayed for a few days, swapping over mid-week.
Puzzlewood House was perfect for them, plenty of space, comfortable and well equipped. But the extra magic ingredient is exclusive access to Puzzlewood when no other visitors are around. Sam said: “I don’t know who was more excited, us or the children! The kids were able to run around and play, visit the animals, play in the mazes, the playground and, of course, the wood, which was the highlight. Having all this to ourselves was incredible!”
For the children, helping feed the animals every morning and evening was rather special. Sam explains: “Growing up in a desert environment, the girls have little contact with animals, so they loved the whole experience. Artemisia is still talking about it, so I hope she will have a strong and special memory of our stay.” Meanwhile, Sam’s dad, who lives in Leamington Spa, said he’d never slept so well and would happily drive back to Puzzlewood just for a sleep! And like most guests, Sam and her family enjoyed exploring the Forest of Dean, visiting attractions such as Perrygrove Railway and Symonds Yat, as well as discovering some great places to eat out.
When asked to sum up her visit to Puzzlewood, Sam said: “Magical, a wonderful family holiday and I’m booking for next year!” We couldn’t ask for a better response!
There is also life beyond Puzzlewood!
Lovely as the Forest of Dean is, we know that many of our guests like to venture further afield. Bristol, Bath, Cardiff, Hereford and Cheltenham are all well worth visiting and make a good day trip. And Monmouth, a lovely market town that sits just on the other side of the Welsh border, is a mere seven miles away.
