Mary Rose Young is a world renowned studio potter whose workshop is only a couple of miles away from Puzzlewood.
...her pieces are bought by collectors all over the world.
Her work is truly exciting and exudes the fantasy world that we find in fairy tales… something she has in common with the quaint and mysterious atmosphere of Puzzlewood.
Having lived her whole life in the Forest the wood has always been a part of her life, she would go for walks there long before it was quite the tourist attraction it has become today. “Even then there was a wonderful air of magic about it, I just don’t understand exactly which ingredients can make a place have such a unique atmosphere, we are fortunate to have it”.
A couple of years ago she found herself making a vase and an accompanying print using the dense enchanted undergrowth of Puzzlewood as a decorative motif…. an homage to its spirit.
She and her team work five days a week making the pieces of treasure that find their way to homes as far away as Sydney Tokyo or Phoenix. There is a gallery above her workshop and visitors are welcome to find out why the Forest of Dean seems to be all about fairy tales and fantasy.
