In recent weeks, we’ve enjoyed a bit of a transformation thanks to a very talented team of street artists from End of the Line.
Headed by renowned graffiti artist Jim Vision, End of the Line is based in Shoreditch, London, and has an incredible reputation. The artists have created some amazing murals all over the UK and they work with a wide variety of clients, from Marvel to Sony PS4 to The Dogs Trust.
One of their latest commissions came from Netflix. To promote the series Our Planet, End of the Line was asked to create art at a number of locations. Puzzlewood features in the opening sequence of the Forests episode and was listed as a possible venue. Unfortunately, we didn’t make the final selection but then something amazing happened. The End of the Line team had fallen in love with Puzzlewood and decided to create the murals anyway.
Puzzlewood gets painted!
Towards the end of June, Jim and fellow artists Matilda and George arrived at Puzzlewood armed with plenty of paint, rollers and spray paint. They stayed in Puzzlewood Cottages and within just a couple of days the exterior and interior of our barns looked incredible, transformed with their stunning interpretation of Puzzlewood, along with much of the wildlife sustained by the wood. It’s made the approach to the wood even more appealing.
As well as depicting Puzzlewood and the natural world, the murals typify everything End of the Line is passionate about. The environment, and the rate at which it is being destroyed, is a recurring theme in the artists’ work. So is there a message hidden within the murals? Jim and his fellow artists aren’t the type to preach to people, but their aim is to encourage people to see beyond the obvious, to encourage thoughts about the environment and what the future holds for the world. The murals will inevitably mean different things to different people and we’re sure that the images will inspire on all kinds of different levels – if, as a result of seeing the murals, someone decides to do something different in their life that is a positive contribution to protecting the planet, then End of the Line, and all of us at Puzzlewood, will be delighted.
Scroll through our Facebook page and you’ll see the murals, plus some coverage by BBC West. Better still, come and visit us and enjoy the murals in real life. Just allow for a little more time as you wander down to the entrance to the wood!
